The Queens College Mathematical Society was created to support the mathematical growth of students at Queens College, CUNY. We inform students of resources, organize lectures, encourage students to take advanced courses and prepare environments where students can share their mathematical ideas.

You may have noticed this website hasn't been updated in 7 months. Whoops! Sorry. Everyone kind of slacked off. We collectively decided we are all too bad at bureaucracy and that the paperwork demands of maintaining an official Queens College club were not worth the funding we'd receive (none) and are technically disbanded. However we remain an active group of student mathematicians. Friday mathing has been suggested as a regular thing. Interested parties should harass Franklin or Josiah to make it happen.

Check out the CUNY Math Challenge, a five-round mathematics competition starting on March 2nd. To crib from the announcement site on the other side of that link, "Here's how it works. The challenge is made up of five rounds, the first four of which take place online and consist of five problems each. A new round opens every other week beginning Monday, March 2, 2009. Participants have two weeks to submit their answers in each round, accumulating points along the way. Problems in each round are of varying levels of difficulty, and no prerequisite courses are needed for participation." This is a good opportunity for people interested in Math at all levels to solve some problems in a competitive fashion and maybe win a cash award and earn recognition from the entire CUNY system. Register now! NOW!

Uncommented the "About LaTeX" link over on the left there and pointed it at the LaTeX explanation that the "Papers" link used to point at. Added a link to a sample .tex file to that page as well. The Student Papers link now points to the TeX directory which is at the moment just my topological group talk notes, and the sample .tex file. Get that .tex file and add to it and make it better if you can or are willing please.

We've moved all the way here from schemesofglory.com . This url seems a bit more appropriate really. Also updated the conferences page, as we've begun tentative planning for an early December conference. Paper submissions can now be emailed to studentpapersatqcmathsociety.com .

On August 18, 2008 we had a great conference! Unfortunately, a lot of people weren't able to present. So we're going to have another one on October 19, 2008. Also, Dr. Itzkowitz and Dr. Kulkarni agreed to give talks and we have to work out the details about what's good for them to talk about. Please go to the forum to discuss this.
